My Tips

  • Hi, just wanted to share some tips.

    1. If you get an enchantment scroll, enchant the weapon, not the armor, because if you enchant the armor you might end up getting a really dangerous glyph like multiplicity or affection.

    2. For Goo, if you fight him in the corridor you won't have as much space to get away from his pumped up attack, and you have no room. I'd still recommend fighting in the room if you haven't got high level armor.

    3. If you put on a cursed low grade armor or low grade ring don't waste a scroll of upgrade on it, use a scroll of remove curse because it's a big waste of an Upgrade scroll.

    4. Overpriced food rations are a waste

    5. Key rings are a waste of gold

    6. Don't throw unidentified potions in an enclosed room (I died on my best run by throwing a toxic gas potion in a room with only 1 door and a skeleton was blocking the door)

The weapon is also more useful than the armor. But if you want a "good" glyph on your armor, just get some Scrolls of Enchantment and use them until you get a "good" glyph.

      2. For Goo, if you fight him in the corridor you won't have as much space to get away from his pumped up attack, and you have no room. I'd still recommend fighting in the room if you haven't got high level armor.

You can always get away from Goo's "pumped up" attack except when your in a corner. It doesn't really matter whether your in a corridor or not. It is best to fight him while the Hero/ine is standing in water while Goo is not.

      3. If you put on a cursed low grade armor or low grade ring don't waste a scroll of upgrade on it, use a scroll of remove curse because it's a big waste of an Upgrade scroll.

It's not a big waste of a Scroll of Upgrade if the upgradable item is -1 and you want to use it.

      4. Overpriced food rations are a waste

They are a waste of gold, but if you are really desperate, then in order to survive, you must buy them. I only buy them if I have the Ring of Haggler and extra gold.

      5. Key rings are a waste of gold

You don't buy Key Rings. You start off with them. Unless Watabou changed it, and I'm not aware of it. Have you actually seen it in the Shop?

      6. Don't throw unidentified potions in an enclosed room (I died on my best run by throwing a toxic gas potion in a room with only 1 door and a skeleton was blocking the door)

Yes, if it is a Potion of Toxic Gas or a Potion of Paralytic Gas, it will last longer in enclosed spaces than when in an open area. In a 1 by 1 area, it will last for 1,000 turns. It is very rare to have a 1 by 1 area to spawn. The 1 by 1 area wouldn't be a room, but a hallway with two or more doors.

I haven't seen a shop in the original PD but there's a mod called Your Pixel Dungeon that lets you make your own levels. I made one with a shop in it and they were selling key rings. I don't think they changed anything in the shop in the mod...

I had a seed of Earthroot once and was standing on it, then Goo started pumping up and I ran away, then after I stepped off it the plant vanished.

What version of the mod do you have? I still start off with the Key Ring, and it's not in the Shop.

You shouldn't have moved from where you were at. If you move after stepping on the planted Seed of Earthroot, you will lose the Herbal Armor buff. There was no need to move from where you were at while you had the buff. Goo wouldn't have been able to damage you, even from his "pumped up" attack. All bosses have a chance to remove the Herbal Armor buff though.

    • I made Goo step on a Sorrowmoss plant in the doorway and was standing on a seed of Earthroot on water. I didn't step off the Earthroot plant at all. I had a +3 Eldritch enchanted regular sword (13 damage - was trying the weapon-upgrade approach) and was 2 hits away from killing Goo when it killed me with a pumped up attack. I was watching the buffs, and I had the herbal armor buff the whole time.

He was damaging you while you had the Herbal Armor buff? What version of the game do you have?

Try to wake Goo as far away from him as possible. Basically, while you are in the door way and while he's in the room. Throw missile weapons, dangerous seeds, and fire any battle wands at him before he reaches you. When there is a tile in between you and Goo, throw your Seed of Earthroot on to a water tile then step on it. Start hitting him with your melee weapon, or if you have a Wand of Firebolt, fire it at him. Whenever you get a Wand of Firebolt, just use all your Scrolls of Upgrade on it. It is the most damaging item in the game.

    • The Hero/ine does start of with the Key Ring. I just checked in the game.

Maybe the Key Ring can also be bought in the shop.

No, they do not. It's just that Herbal armor blocks only limited amount of damage - equal to a maximum amount of owner's health, to be precise.

I've had the Herbal Armor buff removed from my Hero/ine several times when I was fighting a boss.

Then the boss dealt several times your health in damage. Or that was herbal armor from a glyph of entanglement, which is much weaker.

Bosses do not dispel anything, ever.

Well, it's usually removed near the end of the fight.

No, it wasn't from a Glyph of Entanglement. It was from a planted Seed of Earthroot.
