  • I thought this would be a cool discussion topic....

    A place to discuss those moments in PD that infuriate you the most, you know the ones where you are on depth 3 you have just found a +3 plate, a +2 warhammer that was given to you by the ghost and you die when you really shouldn't have. These common moments are typically caused by;

    - Fire

    - Goo

    - Your own carelessness.......and of course,

    - Crabs!

Each comment should give a setup (what makes it so special this time around), what you were aiming for (strategy wise) and the reason you died.

It's a bit like a Pixel Dungeon support group.

      XD  LOL!  +1

(Hope you don't mind if I rename your thread to more accurately describe the gist of this thread, in a broader sense.)

    • I had a lot of these already.Losing for tengu having +4 longsword and firebolt wand,my favorite battle wand,is the most recent one.I'll add here later the other terrible things that happened to me when I had a awesome equippment.

    • Ok so this is worth a mention; After completing the game with a bit of luck, I decided i wanted to try it again but this time try to beat luck at its own game. So i attained a Glaive +2, Scale +2, Ring of Shadows +2 and Ring of Haste +2, went back down to depth 3 and died (accidentally on purpose) so that i could find something decent in my hero remains and start the next game with a clear upgrade strategy in mind.

Following run through, died on depth 1 after disagreeing with a Marsupial Rat.

    • Me! Me! I was a well equipped Mage, lvl 10-11, with LOTS of scrolls (most unidentified) and two unidentified potions. So I walked into a BIG flooded room to drink them in safety, 'cause the Liquid Flame one was still missing. The first potion was Levitation. Unfortunately, I mede a terrible mistake...as I immediately drank he second one, which was...liquid flame.

So, how about a screaming mage, engulfed by flames, magically floating above A GIANT LAKE, casting (in pain, obviously) random magic from his burning scrolls to prevent them to disappear uselessly?

      Also, he died there.

Hilarious. Imagine a live action PD film with multiple chacters all trying to find the amulet.....this would have been my favourite scene in that film!

    • I Was killed by a shaman on depth 7,because goo destroyed me,and made me to use my only healing potion and all of my dew vial. But you need to check my items:

      Screenshot 2014-07-12-18-38-11

      +2 war hammer

      +2 glaive

      +3 plate armor

      Wand of flock

      +1 wand of lightning

      Level 6 warrior.

I can't decide if I will become sad or angry because of this...And all of this could to be avoided with an extra healing potion...

On this other one,my vial was emptied due to a gripping trap, and then,I was killed by a golem having while still 8 healing potions!!!

      +5 plate armor

      +3 plate armor

      +2 blazing glaive

      +4 longsword

      +3 wand of regrowth

      Wands of firebolt,amok,blink

Ring of thorns +1,and cursed ring of elements +4!!!

After this,I'll stop playing PD to avoid further anger.

    • Well I was a normal Warrior, and i've decided once to use Hero's remain.

With the Ghost, I've got a +3 dagger. So I reforge my +1 short sword. Then with a well of transmutation, I transformed it into a +4 Knuckleduster, that I improved with two scrolls of upgrade. So I got a +6 Knuckleduster on level 3 only!!

But, on level 7, i've tried a scale armor that was cursed (-2), so with no point of damage absorption, and I had only 13 points of strenght.

So, well... I died merely ten turns after against a gnoll scout!!

    • On my previous run I placed a lloyd's beacon at level 1 so I could go up the stairs after getting the amulet (it worked).

On this run I found my old warhammer on level 1! Buuuuuut on level 2 I was trapped by 3 wraiths in a corner and as I couldn't yet use my warhammer or have anything to hit them with successfully I slowly died.

      And then I cried.

Sometime I wish I could be able to have good stuff one day...

    • ERG. I have the perfect one.

Depth 14 fighting a fireball. (it didn't click initially that it shouldn't have been there)

I had a +7 plate mail and 15 health potions...   I intentionally checked my health, 23 left, went 'next attack if it's not dead I'll use a health pot'

The next attack did 23 damage and insta killed me...

15 Health potions..   +7 Armour...  Did I mention the 15 health potions?

I have it recorded and essentially rage quit when it happened (nice surprise the next run when I found a +7Plate on depth 14 though haha)

    • Here is a really outré one:

I was on level 9, massive vegetation. I had +3 Mace and +2 chain, had not found a good lvl 4/5 weapon or armor. Suddenly down a long hallway a brute comes around the corner, followed by skeleton and FIRE. So I turned and ran because I was carrying 5(!) upgrades [bonk self*] I turn down another hallway and FIRE! No water, every single step grass, and a skeleton running toward me ahead of it. I killed the skeleton, reached safety, but by then had no upgrades at all.

So where did the fire come from? It took a while, but I have half a theory. I was on lvl 7, 2 floors above, when I threw a fire plant seed across a chasm in front of a plant door [whatever its called], but had missed with the first throw and one dropped into the chasm. I threw a dart, set the fire, and forgot about the one that missed. On floor 8 there was exactly 1 room with a small chasm in the middle. So I must assume it fell 2 floors through that. But how was it ignited. Of course I know time doesn't move on a floor unless you are there. So I assume whatever set it off began when I arrived on lvl 9. But how? You tell me.

BTW, though I survived, I ceased that run after the loss of 5 upgrades. You understand, right?

    • Wow...  I don't even know if that's possible.. but ouch!!

No fade leaf seads to teleport you out of the fire?  :/

Quitting at that point, complelety understandable haha

    • Level 1, starting room

I'm quietly reading my Tome of Mastery. My first move, to start a new game.

And then a nice little rat enters the room, while I'm still reading my book... and in 3 turns, it kills me.

Shortest game ever. But absolutely unbearable.

    • A nice one too: being teleported (anyway...) in a room completely tiled with summoning traps.

And of course at the end of the teleportation trip, you end up putting one toe on one of the traps...

Pretty nice death, in a room instantaneously filled with monsters...

Isn't that what they call "flash mobs"?

    • Opening the piranha room by throwing something into it, to maintain it opened, and wanting to quietly kill those f*$#ng beasts with my boomerang, happily standing outside their room far away from their horrible teeth.

But sadly missing the fact that the room I stayed in is also covered with water, and piranhas can swim...

Two throws of boomerang later, the three fishes are both around me, and kill me in a few seconds!

They shouldn't be able to travel through the door to the other side and get you.

    • Did one today. Yesterday I got 20 damage absorbing scale armor from the sad ghost and beat Goo with a Sorrowmoss seed, 2 potions of healing and an unstable short sword (warrior). I upgraded the armor to absorb 24 damage and got to Prison (depth 6) today. I went to depth 7 and beat a crazy thief and a gnoll shaman, then realised I forgot the shop at depth 6 and there was supposed to be one adjacent to the starting room, but there wasn't. I searched the walls and found a hidden door but it wasn't the shop, it was a room with 3 skeletons and a crazy thief. I ran away and got trapped in a room with a skeleton and threw a toxic gas potion (unidentified.) I actually beat the skeleton and probably wouldn't have died if I hadn't thrown it. Such a waste of such a good run... :(

    • This just happened to me. I was in the alechmy lab, minding my own business when suddenly a super fast skeleton barged in and started hitting me like 3 times a second. All my hits missed it and it kept attacking me extremely fast until I died. (Also I was paralyzed) WTF?
