Example journal

Overview

The Journal can be accessed from a button placed in the upper right corner of the character window.

Purpose

The purpose of the journal is to keep track of certain special rooms and quest giving NPCs. Each time the Hero encounters one of these events, it will be registered in a list and the depth where it is located will be specified. 

Points of interest (such as rooms) will be listed upon entering the Hero's field of view.

The NPCs will be recorded until you talk to them.

When viewing the journal, if you are on the same depth as a listed entry, that entry will appear in yellow text (instead of the normal white).
